How To Appreciate Life’s Mundane Moments

“Life is pure adventure, and the sooner we realize that, the quicker we will be able to treat life as art.”

~ Maya Angelou

The other day, I was driving around town tending to various errands as I do any other day. Lately, I’ve gotten frustrated every time I look at the dashboard in my car. See, I have a 2010 Dodge Journey. It has over 112,000 miles on it. Over the last couple of months, EVERY light has come on… the engine light, the tire air pressure light, and various other lights. I don’t even know what they mean.

As I’m driving, I’m thinking. I’ve paid it off and I really don’t want to jump into another car payment.

And pay full coverage for car insurance. At the same time, I’m thinking how much longer will I be able to drive this car until it finally...no longer serves me.

I’m thinking to myself while driving (I think a lot while driving). Should I stop at the car lot? What will happen with this car in another 6 months? How much longer will it be drivable?

At this moment I was frustrated, and I was over this car. Needless to say, I was not appreciating the fact the car was working today. I was fixated on the future and what would happen...

Although I know my car may be on its last legs and may not be drivable in the next 6 months, I’ve really grown to love this car and I'm proud of myself for paying it off. It has served me for many years,

Maya’s quote resonates with me for many reasons. She says, “Life is an adventure.” We have our ups and downs in life. We will have many struggles: however, because of the struggles, the joys will be appreciated.

I usually only want to celebrate life’s joys and victories. However, so much has happened in the past year that I’m slowly learning to appreciate the little mundane moments.

It’s the little things like appreciating the car I have right now. Being in the moment is important because the future is unknown.

I believe when Maya says life is an adventure, It simply means that sometimes life is exciting, sometimes life is boring, sometimes life is happy and sometimes life is sad. But the sooner we learn to appreciate our life, the sooner we can see it as art.

After all, art teaches us to have a greater understanding of life and others. The more we will be able to express ourselves and be more creative, the more we will treat life as art.

Appreciate your life, where you are and where you've been so that you can appreciate where you're going.

If it comes to pass that my "Old Betsy" puts me down. Then I know that I will begin a new adventure in a new ride.

Thank you for allowing me to share this with you today!
